No to park plan

No to park plan

As a homeowner in Kukuihaele, I was never informed of the county’s plans for the park.

I am retired from heavy construction and I think the plan, as well as the cost overrun, is absurd! The park, as well as many other county parks, is in need of some upgrade, but not at this scale and cost.

It is my opinion that the County Council, all council members, should be held accountable for wasting Hawaii County’s assets in this manner.

We, all the people of Hawaii County, need to remind our elected officials of their responsibilities to be prepared for future needs.

Wounded nation

I cannot help but reflect on the Orlando men.

Not one bitter word. All we’ve heard and felt from them and the gay world across our planet has been the warmth of love, more truthful it cannot be.

They are the example. They are the martyrs. They don’t need recognition and praise. They trusted they were safe.

Our nation is wounded once more. We are at fault.

Think about it. It begins with hurt.

Pedestrian safety

As of Jan. 1, there have been 20 traffic fatalities on Oahu, 12 of them involving pedestrians.

This reminds me to ask that early morning or late-evening walkers and joggers, as well as bicycle riders, wear some sort of reflective clothing when doing so.

I often commute in the early morning hours and all too often see roadside pedestrians in dark, nonreflective clothing walking too close to the roadways, especially where there are no sidewalks. Dark clothing blends in with a dark environment, making it difficult to see you.

Pedestrians, please take the initiative to be a lot safer by wearing reflective clothing during your strolls along the roadways.
